Futurity Rules & Forms
The Old West Rope Horse Futurity follows official ARHFA rules and guidelines. Below you’ll find key eligibility requirements, horse age designations, and competition standards. Please review the highlights before entering, and download the full rulebook and forms for complete details.
Key Highlights:
Intermediate & Limited Rider Rules
Must hold a current 2025 WS or USTRC card.
ARHFA management reserves the right to approve/deny eligibility.
Riders can’t add subclasses after a class has started.
Intermediate Trailer Race
Must enter a minimum of three ARHFA events to qualify.
Earnings tracked at sanctioned events, with adjustments for large payouts.
Top rider of the year wins a trailer at the World Championship.
Horse Age Designations
Pre-Futurity: 3–4 years old
Open Futurity: 3–6 years old
Non-Pro: No age restriction
General Rules
Membership required for all riders/owners.
Correct back numbers must be worn.
Crossfire and illegal head catches result in disqualification.
Cowboy hat, collared shirt, jeans, and boots required.
ARHFA reserves the right to refuse service or eject for misconduct.
Breakaway Rules
Open to women riders only.
Horses must be 3–6 years old.
Exhibitors may show up to 5 horses.
Bell collar catch only; one loop allowed.
